Austin Energy is Having Some Cars Converted to Plug-In Hybrid

|

There isn't much to say, but I am pretty excited.

As part of their initiative to get auto manufacturers to produce Plug-In Hybrid vehicles, Austin Energy has had Hymotion from Toronto, Canada, convert 2 Priuses to plug-in hybrids.

They are likely to get a third one done eventually as well.

They are wanting a couple of months before they say anything more about the project officially so that they have more details when the inevitable performance questions come up. But the fact that something is being done is great news.

16 Points about GM's Long-Awaited Breakthrough PHEVs

We encourage you to point anyone you think has heard about plug-in hybrids or is reading today's broad coverage of the news from GM to this page, or to print and distribute the above flyer. Here's our "bottom-line" reaction: "We commend GM for being the first out of the starting gate in the Great Plug-In Car Race of 2007. GM's announcements are the biggest victories yet for CalCars.org and other PHEV advocates. Now our campaign is in third gear. We'll work with the auto industry, government, fleet buyers and advocates to get to the day -- soon, not in a decade -- when customers can buy PHEVs as easily as any other car." -- Felix Kramer, Founder of CalCars.org.
