The Detroit Auto show is this week, a time for all of the auto manufacturers to flex their muscles and try to out guess what the rest of the market will be doing in 5-10 years. As usual, they are showing a bunch of non-functional prototypes and concept vehicles, trying to guage the response to their ideas so that they can decide what to build for us to drive a couple of years from now...
Currently leading the buzz in the EV realm would be the fact that GM "could be" jumping back into the electric vehicle market with a nifty looking plug-in hybrid called the Chevy Volt. It is just a rolling chassis at the moment, and they still don't have a battery pack lined up for it, but what they are claiming sounds interesting...
400hp Toyota FT-HS Hybrid Sports Concept

Toyota has been talking about a hybrid super car that will incorporate their Synergy Drive(tm) for quite some time, but apparently they have been releasing details in preparation for a showing. I missed the release, but.. bunches of the blogs that I read have started having posts about the car.
Slated to debut on Sunday, January 7 at the North American International Auto Show, the HSC is expected to be a 400+ horsepower hybrid concept sports car. Designed by Toyota’s Newport Beach, California studio, the 2+2 boasts a 3.5-liter V-6 yoked to a 650-volt water-cooled motor, and a retractable roof. It should have a 0-60 time around four seconds and cost about 30 - 40,000 dollars.
I guess everybody is getting all excited because they think this is essentially the next Supra. Don't get me wrong, it looks pretty cool and I bet that I will want to drive it when it comes out. BUT, I prefer the all electric option... Tesla Roadster
