Saturn delivered and work continues

| |

Oops. Looks like life got away from me a bit and I forgot to keep up with the writing. Since I have a few minutes, I will try to catch up on the status of things a bit.

The Saturn is doing well. We essentially delivered it a few weeks ago and it is running really well. Brian wanted very badly to participate in the IBM car show so I made a push to get cleaned up and running for that. There are a couple of things that remain, but they aren't essential for operation or safety so they can wait. By coincidence KVUE wanted to talk to an EV owner that day as well, so Brian got to keep his EV hat on and made it into the evening news too. You can watch it here if you want:

To top it all off, we also delivered in time that Brian could break in the car enough to be comfortable using it to bring his brand new baby home from the hospital. What an honor.

So, what remains to be done?... The idea was that we could get the car to Brian so that he can give it some exercising, identifying any issues we need to tighten up while we finish up working on getting the AC ready to install.

Air conditioning ... This is what I am working on today. For some unknown reason, Brian really seems to want this to be working...

I have several brackets to install before we can connect the hoses and get a local shop to change the fittings on some of the stock hoses. Chris designed several brackets in CAD and we sent them out for quote a few weeks ago hoping to be able to get them made for less than it would take for us to make them ourselves... ummm. nope. Custom machining is expensive. At least at the place Chris took it it is. More than this project would allow. So, we ended up making them ourselves. The nice thing is that we were able to print the drawings out in one to one scale so that we could use a tacking adhesive to hold it on the metal. Then following the cut lines on the bandsaw was trivial. I was able to cut, fold and weld the metal and clean up the edges with little problem. Very useful procedure. Some of the complex curves make you want a waterjet or good plasma table though... [grin]
