Saturn AC compressor and custom springs arrive
Submitted by Aaron Choate on Tue, 2008-02-26 12:03. Electric Vehicles | EV bidness | Projects: Saturn 2002 SLYay! We have started to receive the last remaining pieces for the Saturn project. These ended up having a much longer lead time than we had expected when we were scheduling the project. So, we had to move on with the design on the Mazda 3 while we waited for them to arrive. Now we can get on with buttoning up the last details on the Saturn and get it out to the client.
The AC compressor for the Saturn project arrived last week. It is a Masterflux Sierra compressor. We like how small these guys are and hope that we will be able to use them on our builds into the future. I will keep taking notes and posting our impressions here as we get it installed.
One thing to consider when purchasing these units is that you will need to install this sucker into a weather-tight something-or-other ... It is the controller for the brush-less DC motor that is in the compressor.
And finally, the new improved beefier springs. We ordered these to make up for the fact that we will be adding more weight to both the front and the back of the vehicle as well. We feel that the shocks should be able to handle what Brian will be doing in this car. However, for high performance applications, we will probably also want to spec upgraded shocks as well as other suspension components.
